As vast number of refugees came pouring out of Hungary they created a serious problem which had to be faced Austria was flooded. Austria bore the main brunt, and generously provided asylum to 174,000 refugees. This action of Austria, despite the burden which the refugee problem placed on her limited economy, is commendable. Proportionately, in relation to its population, this action of Austria would be equivalent to the United States opening her borders to over 4 million refugees. The United States and many other free world countries responded generously to the problem of resettlement of the refugees, as indicated from the following distribution.
